Labor Economics

Labor Economics is one of the Economics Department's main areas of research. Interests of the core faculty span many topics in the field including labor supply, workplace safety, and the evaluation of government transfer programs. Additionally, many other faculty members in the department study issues in labor markets that overlap with public economics, urban economics, international trade, and industrial organization.

Our core faculty have published labor research in major general journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, and the Journal of the American Statistical Association, as well as in top field journals, including the Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Public Economics and the RAND Journal of Economics, to name a few. One faculty member in the labor group is a coeditor of the Journal of Human Resources. A recent ranking of Ph.D. programs in economics (available at www.econphd.net) places the Syracuse labor group 22nd in the U.S. and 30th in the world.

A two course sequence in labor economics at the Ph.D. level provides students with the tools to begin labor research. This sequence is offered annually.
