Journal

The Journal of Civil Society and Social Transformation (JCSST) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. The JCSST publishes articles bridging theory and practice and addressing contemporary issues related to transnational NGOs, civil society and broader processes of social transformation. Core themes include governance, leadership, organizational effectiveness, accountability, transnational advocacy, global policy, capacity building, NGO partnerships and collaborations, grassroots mobilization, participatory approaches, sustainable development, disaster relief and human rights. The JCSST covers topics related to regional and country level issues as well as global issues. The journal also publishes assessments of specific approaches and practices such as micro-credit programs and rights-based approaches.

The journal accepts scholarly articles submitted through courses and symposia affiliated with the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Civil Society Organizations at the Maxwell School. The JCSST is sponsored by the Transnational NGO Initiative and the Moynihan Institute. Articles are competitively selected and evaluated through an external blind review process.

Volume 1 of the Journal of Civil Society and Social Transformation will be available in December 2009.

This journal replaces its predecessor, the Journal of Development and Social Transformation.
