Research Interests
My research interests include citizenship theory, conflict resolution, human rights, and issues surrounding the condition of statelessness. A research trip to northern Thailand made starkly clear to me the importance of citizenship, and the dire plight of the stateless, and led me to question why statelessness remains a largely neglected human rights crisis, notwithstanding the existence of international laws guaranteeing nationality. Why do some issues receive international attention while others do not? My dissertation aims to use statelessness as a case study for understanding the broader process of “issue emergence” within major nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) such as Amnesty International.
